Chuhedaani is a film about Meena, a young village girl who is married to an abusive caretaker of an old house. She’s coming to terms with her miserable life but fate adds it’s own twist in the tale when the lecherous landlord arrives one day.
Director
Born in Rewari, India in 1986, He is a self-taught filmmaker who has honed his skills by participating & winning numerous time-bound film-making competitions while also working full-time as an IT Engineer. His subsequent shortfilms focusing on the internal conflicts of the character, have went to be screened at multiple film festivals in India and abroad. He is currently researching for his debut feature film.
Director’s note: From the time I started to write the film, I was clear with my intention to base it on the theme of how a woman can enable herself to get rid of the misery (in different forms) in her life, without necessarily being dependent on another man’s help. The film derives its essence from the metaphor of a mousetrap.
The protagonist Meena of my film Chuhedaani is a strong and fierce girl. While she comes from an underprivileged background and has fallen prey to the patriarchal mindset that exists in the Rural Indian society, she is not a dumb person. She is intelligent and resourceful. The film also attempts to show the harassment that is faced in the martial life in a different form.
The treatment of film has deliberately been kept as close to reality as possible, with minimal technical interference and shooting at the real location.
