Hasim October [Shorts Session 3]
It’s October 2001 in a New Jersey suburb, a stone’s throw away from Ground Zero. Indian-American teenager Brinda plans a prank on a school bully. However she soon learns, even the smallest prank can have major repercussions in post-911 America.
Director
Swetha Regunathan is a filmmaker based in New York. After completing her undergraduate education at Columbia University, she worked in the publishing industry and then pursued a PhD in English at Brown University. Her writing has appeared in Guernica, n+1, Words Without Borders, and other publications. In 2009 she was nominated for a Pushcart Prize for best American essay. Swetha is currently an MFA candidate in Writing/Directing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Swetha was shortlisted for a 2017 Lexus Short Films award and was a 2016 finalist for the Sundance New Voices Lab for her series, The Academy. She is also the recipient of a 2015-2016 grant from the Rhode Island Foundation.
