Director
Gurinder J. Singh is a New York based filmmaker (corporate lawyer by day).
While Rising Lotus is her directorial debut, Gurinder’s love for cinema began during her childhood years watching classic Bollywood films at a time when she and her brothers helped run the family video store.
As a first generation Indian-American, Gurinder is intimately aware of the struggles that come with straddling different cultures and backgrounds. She is drawn to existential questions and wants to tackle social issues and topics that are not often discussed to help effect positive change in the world.
As is evident by Rising Lotus, Gurinder’s work fuses South Asian culture, music and mythology with western elements.
