The Girls are not Brides [Pre-Feature Short]
The Girls are not Brides is a documentary film on early child marriage. Child marriage is a strong social custom in Bangladesh and has the fourth highest rate of child marriage in the world. Due to cultural setting, girls are regarded here as an economic burden and are expected to marry very young. So, for millions of girls in Bangladesh, marriage comes so soon and the damage follows them throughout their lives.
This film is not only focusing on the negative situation facing of girls; the main intention has been given on four different successes stories of some girls, those who have stood up against child marriage and ultimately succeeded and established themselves in the society. These heroic and victorious examples will encourage girls to decide their own destiny while showing their parents a way to be supportive of their decision rather than regarding them as an economic burden.
Child marriage is just only a social obsession and nothing else moreover it is also a massive violating of child right. So this film can use globally to change people perception and create awareness.
Director
Mr. KM Taj-Biul Hasan (Head of Director’s panel)
Mr. Hasan was born on April 06 1965 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is an Educational Film & Television Program maker as well as researcher. He has been in this profession since 1993. So far he made a good number of films and television programs in public and private sectors. Some of his productions received awards and appreciations as well as screened in the prominent film festivals and TV channels all over the world. Apart from these; Mr. Hasan also created a historic record by winning three times, the most prestigious award on Educational media competition of the world “National Federation of UNESCO Japan Prize” for his three educational films. So far he visited many countries of Asia, Europe and Africa for his professional reason.
Ms. Novera Hasan Nikkon: (1st Director)
Ms. Nikkon was born on February 04 1998 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is now an under graduate 3rd semester student of Fine Arts Department of the Jagannath University, Dhaka. She is a trainee Assistant Director of Dhrupad Communication. Her proposed production proposal “The Girls are not Brides” got The Hoso Bunka Foundation Award in the NHK Japan Prize competition – 2016. She is confident on research, and script writing. Ms. Nikkon has also participated some International film event home and abroad such as in India, Nepal, Malaysia and Japan.
Ms. Shyfoon Naher: (2nd Director)
Ms.Naher was born on November 07 1971 in Dhaka. Now she is CEO & Proprietor of Dhrupad Communication. She has been an enlisted TV script writer of Bangladesh Open University since 1996. She worked in a good number of films and television productions as script writer and associate director. Ms. Naher has participated some International film event home and abroad such as in India, Nepal & Malaysia.
